All the law enforcement agencies in Washtenaw County have joined together to help make our County and our residents safer, by holding a Gun Safety Week June 21st through June 27th, 2015. The purpose of the Washtenaw County Gun Safety Week is to educate and raise awareness about issues related to gun safety and encourage responsible gun ownership.
Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Con-Way Freight and Christina’s Smile Partnered Up to Provide Dental Services for Area Children in Need
On June 1st and 2nd, Christina’s SmileTM Children’s Dental Clinic and Con-way Inc. partnered with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and local schools, including Adams STEM Academy, Estabrook Elementary and Perry Early Learning Center, to screen and select local, underserved children with priority dental care needs. Over two days, the clinic and its local volunteer dentists provided dental services, free of charge, to as many as 80 children, representing nearly $63,000 worth of services.

Now there is a way for you to share your nature observations with other interested folks, including scientists. Become a “citizen scientist” and record your observations using two online data collection sites: the Michigan Herp Atlas and eBird.

Police Service Dog “Fred” assumed active duty with the Sheriff’s Office on Friday, May 8th, 2015. Trained in part for drug detection, Fred made his first successful drug search while assisting the Livingston & Washtenaw Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (LAWNET) in the service of a search warrant on May 21st, 2015.
It will soon be easier for Washtenaw County residents who lack proper identification to access local public and private services such as the police, hospitals and banks. The Washtenaw County Clerk – Vital Records Division will begin issuing Washtenaw County ID Cards on June 1, 2015 to residents who meet application standards.
