Washtenaw County Public Health reminds residents to contact us about animal bites or other close contact with animals. Wild or unvaccinated animals may spread rabies. Public Health will provide recommendations about rabies risk and the need for post-exposure vaccination.
West Nile virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne virus that can cause mild illness (West Nile fever) or severe symptoms (encephalitis or meningitis - an inflammation of the brain) in humans and other animals. People primarily get West Nile from the bite of a mosquito that is infected with WNV.
Conditions in parts of the Huron River are very hazardous this spring, where the force of the swift flowing water leaves little room for error for kayak and canoeing enthusiasts.
