Washtenaw County Mourns the Passing of Nelson Mandela

The former South African political prisioner and president Nelson Mandela died Thursday in South Africa. He was 95.

Nelson Mandela was most widely known for his efforts to end apartheid in South Africa, for which he won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. 

A man of great accomplishment, and someone who lived his life with purpose, Mandela valued equality and freedom for all.  He made a positive impact-not only in his country, but the entire world.

In honor of this great man, all flags will be flown at half-staff today, December 6, 2013.
