Washtenaw County Solid Waste Program - Upcoming Events

The Washtenaw county solid waste team has been busy with waste diversion activities!

A regional clean up day was held on May1st at the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority facility on Werkner Rd. During the 5 hour event over 2,500 gallons of paint and other flammable materials, 1,500 pounds of poisons, 650 tires and 7 tons of electronic waste were collected.  Support from the local host communities of Lyndon and Dexter Townships help offset the cost and $10,000 was appropriated by the Board of Commissioners for this event.   Donations by the 565 participating citizens provided an additional $4,500 making this event a true collaborative effort. Mark your calendar for the next collection on October 16 across from Rynearson Stadium on Hewitt Rd.

Other news from the solid waste team include the expansion of the medicine take back program. The Pharmacy’s within Busch’s Valu Land grocery stores are now accepting unused pharmaceuticals, excluding controlled substances, free of charge. Go to our website for more information including all participating pharmacies.

Do you have items that need to be shredded? Another popular event are free paper shredding events held throughout the year.  AllShred Services is partnering with the following local groups to provide several free, secure document-shredding events open to all Washtenaw County residents and businesses. There is a maximum of three boxes or 100 pounds accepted per resident or business per event. Events will be held, rain or shine!
