Applause for Author Carla Wilson
Carla Wilson, a correctional officer at the
Washtenaw County Jail, is a contributing author in a newly released book
entitled Serving Productive Time:
Stories, Poems, and Tips to Inspire Positive Change from Inmates, Prison
Staff, and Volunteers, published by Health
Communications, Inc.
(July 2009)
Serving Productive Time is a follow-up book to Chicken Soup for the Prisoner's Soul and Serving Time, Serving Others by co-authors Tom Lagana and Laura Lagana. Wilson captured the Laganas' curiosity when she shared with them that she "facilitates a guided meditation every morning for the inmates under my supervision". The authors were so incredibly moved by the meditation experience that they asked Wilson to document each step. Two years later, "Beyond Your Outdate," Wilson's meditation, appears in the newly published book, Serving Productive Time. Clinically trained in chemical dependency and mental illness, Wilson shares her message as an author, inspirational speaker and guided meditation facilitator for jails, prisons, churches and educational institutions.
Authors Laura and
Tom Lagana have set a goal: to send at least one box of books to
every prison, jail, and youth detention center in the United States,
confident of the positive impact it can have in
helping people make positive changes in their lives.
