The Bus was STUFFED!!!!
With over 10,000 items
collected last week, the bus was literally "stuffed" with school supplies
for Ypsilanti Public school students K-5.
Washtenaw County, United Way and
Ypsilanti Public School employees showed their support along with many
people from the public at last week's Stuff the Bus
event. Through rain and shine, the volunteers worked hard to make this
event a success. Some of the items collected were 112 backpacks, 403
packages of crayons, 706 notebooks, 3,136 pencils, 985 highlighters, 523
folders, 120 pads of colored construction paper, and the list goes on and on
and on!!!
"The community of Washtenaw County again came together to help those in need. The bus was truly 'stuffed' with the generosity of those who understand the difficulties their neighbors are facing. Washtenaw County staff deserve congratulations and gratitude for coming through once again. Not only did they coordinate this amazing event, but so many of the staff members donated to the cause. I was honored to spend time collecting donations, and I am ready to help make the program an even bigger success next year" says Comissioner Kristen Judge.
A big THANK YOU to all those who volunteered and donated! A special thanks to the City of Ann Arbor employees of the William R. Wheeler Service Center for nightly storage of the bus at their MRF/ Compost Facility, to Larry Crout, our faithful bus driver who arrived each morning with the bus and each evening to pick up the bus, and to all county departments who helped facilitate this event. Due to the volunteer efforts, collaboration of all involved and donations received, many children will start off their school year with the supplies they need to have a successful year!
