Pioneer High/Allen Creek Public Hearing

A public hearing will be held on Thursday January 8th at Pioneer High school to discuss new plans for a rainwater collection and treatment system to be located underneath the north lawn at Pioneer.  Since 2007, the Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner (formerly Washtenaw County Drain Commissioner), the City of Ann Arbor and the Ann Arbor Public Schools district have been working together to find ways improve water quality and reduce flooding throughout Ann Arbor’s west side Allen Creek area. Construction is planned for December 2009 through August 2010.  The public is invited to hear details and offer feedback at the hearing.

Thursday, January 8, 7:00-8:30 p.m.

The meeting will begin with some background information about why this site was chosen. The draft design will be presented, followed by a discussion session. The expected result will be an understanding of the intended construction, and to continue incorporating public input into the design process. Another meeting is planned for the spring when designs will be more complete.
There are not expected to be any lane closures of S. Main or Stadium Blvd as a result of this project. There are not expected to be any conflicts with U of M football parking. The main stormwater facilities will be placed below ground. Two small rain gardens will be built near the parking lot. Other landscape features may be added - swale, hedges.
