Flu Season: It's Here!
It seems to be here – that flu
they warned us about… the reason we got the flu vaccine late last
year. Public Health is noticing a
significant “spike” in cases of influenza over the past week. A
majority of these cases seem to be hitting children and the under-30 set
hardest.
The County’s Public Health web site has a lot of online resources for anyone interested in knowing more about preventing, getting and coping with influenza and its symptoms. If you haven't received a flu shot, they are still available in Washtenaw County.
One of the best ways to prevent the flu can depend on other people: if you are feeling sick and have flu-like symptoms, especially fever, don’t come in to work. Can’t tell if it’s a cold or the flu? This page on the Centers for Disease Control web site can help you distinguish.
A bad cold can also be miserable, and very contagious, as well. In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a new socially acceptable way to sneeze and cough in public. Take a look at this new “educational” video on the method.
And, by all means, be aware of the way you feel, take your temperature – and if you have the symptoms of flu - treat yourself as your own good patient: stay home and get well.
