Mary Jo Callan,
the executive director of Ozone House Youth and Family Service in Ann Arbor
is the new director of Community Development, the collaborative
venture between the City of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw
County.County Administrator Bob Guenzel introduced Callan at the County’s Group of 180 meeting on Thursday. “In her time with Ozone House, Mary Jo has shaped one of this community’s non-profit gems in serving youth in need,” said Guenzel. “Ozone House has won much acclaim under her leadership, as in the recent honor of being named the “Best Managed Non-profit in Southeast Michigan” by Crain’s Detroit Business Regional Magazine.”

the new hire earlier this month.
Callan has served as executive director of Ozone House since 2002. Ozone
House is a community-based nonprofit agency in Washtenaw County dedicated to
providing safety, emergency shelter, transitional housing and a continuum of
support services to runaway, homeless and at-risk youth in our community.
During her tenure with Ozone House she successfully acquired
and managed more than $6 million in public and private grant funding to
support agency capacity and programs and services to youth; raised $750,000
by working with Ozone House Board of Directors and staff to plan and execute
the agency’s first-ever Capital Campaign; and has worked with the agency’s
Board and Director of Financial Management to ensure accurate accounting of
agency resources, and alignment with Board-approved annual budgets and
long-range planning.
Callan has been with Ozone House since 1994. Prior to the executive director
role she served as Independent Living Program coordinator and associate
director of Ozone House Youth and Family Service. Her present community and
leadership experience includes Operations Committee Member,
Washtenaw Housing Alliance; Interim Executive Committee Member,
Community Collaborative of Washtenaw County; Board
Member, Washtenaw County Continuum of Care Board;
Advisory Board Member, Family Support Network; and Member and past Co-Chair,
Washtenaw Council of Private Agencies.
