Mortgage Settlement Claims Mailed to Michigan Borrowers who Lost Their Homes to Foreclosure Between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011.
The Michigan Attorney General has announced that claim forms have been mailed to approximately 148,000 Michigan borrowers who lost their homes to foreclosure between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011. Qualified Michigan Borrowers may be eligible for a cash payment under the $25 billion national mortgage settlement. Eligible Michigan borrowers had mortgages serviced by Ally/GMAC, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo. Please read the full release below for more information.

Federal Trade Commission Short Sale Regulation
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued a new Rule governing the solicitation and performance of “short sale” services. It was issued in response to complaints about false, misleading, and deceptive practices by “short sale” negotiators. It covers the nature and scope of their services and the fees they would receive. New Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Rule
In order to protect homeowners, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) adopted a new rule that bans providers of mortgage foreclosure rescue and loan modification services from collecting fees until homeowners have a written offer from their lender or servicer that they decide is acceptable. The rule outlaws advance fees and false claims and requires clear disclosures. Most provisions of the rule are effective December 29, 2010 and the advance fee ban becomes effective January 31, 2011.
