2014 Property Auction Open House
Ypsilanti Tax Foreclosure Open House scheduled June 28th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The City of Ypsilanti and the Washtenaw County Treasurer are pleased to announce the 4th annual tax foreclosure Open House for the City of Ypsilanti. The event will be held between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014. City and County staff will be available during the open house hours at each location to answer questions and provide information. Of the 16 properties, nearly half will be available for viewing.
“We continue to have positive feedback from investors and residents who are able to inspect properties prior to auction. It helps them to inspect the condition of the property prior to bidding,” said Teresa Gillotti, Planner for the City of Ypsilanti. “Normally bidders at the county’s on-line auction don’t have a chance to assess the property and end up buying it ‘as is’. The goal of this event is to take some of the risk out of acquiring a tax foreclosed property. When all is said and done, we all want to see these abandoned properties put to productive reuse.”
Gillotti also noted that tax foreclosures are down in the City of Ypsilanti this year, going from 32 in 2013 to just 16 this year. Catherine McClary, the Washtenaw County Treasurer, agreed, “We have fewer properties, but several are in better shape. We encourage potential bidders to visit properties and do their due diligence prior to bidding.”
Two fairly high profile commercial properties are included in this year’s auction – 15 S. Washington, commonly known as the Smith Furniture building, and 908 N. Congress, commonly known as the Little Red Party Store.
The County Treasurer will begin hosting on-line auctions on July 15 with auctions to continue each week through mid-August. More information can be found online at: http://treasurer.ewashtenaw.org.
