On December 3, 2015, Deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress of a house under construction in Ypsilanti Township. Witnesses saw three (3) to four (4) subjects loading materials into a van and dialed 911 to report the incident. Sgt. Dave Egeler was the first to arrive on scene where the van was still running. The suspects fled on foot upon his arrival. Deputy Houk and his police service dog (PSD) Argo initiated a track to a nearby vacant home where a door had been kicked in, but no one was located. Deputies Larkin and Traskos searched the area as well and found a subject lying in the weeds, whom they took into custody.
The Underwater Search & Recovery Team (USRT) recently completed a three (3) day training aimed both at certifying our two (2) new divers and re-certifying current team divers as Surface Supplied Air Divers. The training was challenging, requiring ten (10) to twelve (12) hours of physically demanding work and diving each day. Notably, our new divers accumulated in excess of six (6) hours of bottom time over the three (3) day period inclusive of classroom time.
