Office of the Sheriff
In the less than five months since Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies began carrying Naloxone, they have saved 11 lives. This number does not reflect the lives saved where Sheriff’s Office deputies were on the scene but HVA or EMT-trained firefighter personnel administered the Naloxone. This equates to more than two lives saved per month because deputies who were first on the scene carried Naloxone, were trained to use it and immediately administered it when encountering a suspected heroin overdose.
The WCSO takes particular pride in this program as it is an entirely staff generated initiative designed to provide children in need with an opportunity to shop for gifts for themselves and those whom they love. Selected by school social workers on the basis of demonstrated need, these are children who might not otherwise have had much of a holiday.
