Underwater Search and Recovery Team Applicants Engage in “Practical Assessment Process”

The Sheriff’s Office Underwater Search & Recovery Team (USRT) is comprised of law enforcement officers who are also highly trained professional divers. On December 3rd, 2014, prospective team member applicants from the Sheriff’s Office and Arbor City and Ypsilanti City Police Departments met to participate in the practical swim testing portion of the new member assessment process. The Sheriff’s Office Underwater Search and Recovery Team (USRT) posted vacancies on the USRT for full-time Law Enforcement personnel employed in Washtenaw County. After receiving applications, applicants were tested for swimming proficiency and offered the opportunity to experience some of the specialized equipment utilized by the USRT.

Collaborative Inter-Agency Response & Investigation Leads to Arrest of B&E Suspect

At approximately 2:10 a.m., on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported breaking & entering in progress at the leasing office and maintenance garage of Eastwood Terrace Apartments, Ypsilanti Township. While responding, Deputies observed a gold/tan Buick Century driving eastbound away from the apartments. Upon arrival, they observed the office door had been kicked open and noted visible imprints from the suspect’s shoes. An on-duty Ann Arbor Police Department service dog was requested and responded to the scene.
