Support Services is comprised of six operational sections, identified as Policy Development and Compliance, Property/Evidence, Civil, Technology Services, Records and Human Resources.
The Office of the Sheriff, by statute must maintain a civil process unit. The unit is responsible for service of:
The unit is also responsible for the weekly mortgage
foreclosure auctions. These auctions are open to the public and are held
every Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the lobby of the County Courthouse.
A Director, nine (9) Special Deputies, and two (2) clericals staff the
unit.
Human Resources is staffed by two civilian employees who receive all training information and organize and administer all agency training under the supervision of the Support Services Commander. Training includes inter-departmental training unique to the agency and training under the auspices of the Michigan Commnission On Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). The Human Resources Department is also responsible for the development of agency personnel as instructors and the administration of training programs provided for other police agencies by the Sheriff's Office. The recruitment and selection of staff is also handled by the Human Resources Department.
A Property Officer maintains custody of a large inventory of items held by the Sheriff's Office as evidence in criminal investigations and prosecutions as well as lost and found property turned over to the Department for safekeeping. The Property Officer supervises the strict chain of custody for criminal evidence transported to and from the Michigan State Police Crime Laboratories. Finally, the Property Officer administers the disposition of unclaimed properties through public auction and monitors the destruction of contraband.
The Technology Services Section is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the Department's computer system. They also hold responsibility for the selection, maintenance and inventory of technological equipment such as telephones, pagers and radios.
