
T.E.A.M. (Teaching, Educating, And Mentoring) is a school-based law related education program taught by specially trained officers. Unlawful and youthful risk taking behavior is addressed in this program, with lessons on the laws and consequences that commonly effect students. T.E.A.M. has replaced the D.A.R.E. program in Dexter, Lincoln, Willow Run, and Ypsilanti School Districts in Washtenaw County.

Lesson 1: I Know My "Big 5" Safety Rules
Designed to help acquaint the students with some very basic safety rules.
Lesson 2: What is "911?"
Designed to make students aware of how and when to call for help. Through an interactive exercise, the concept of using a telephone to dial the 911 emergency operator will be practiced.
Lesson 3: Someone Special, Someone Safe - That's Me!
Designed to provide information to the students on traffic, bicycle, and pedestrian safety.
Lesson 4: I Have a Plan
Designed to assist students learn important fire safety habits that can protect them.
Lesson 5: Let's Learn About Gun Safety
Designed to provide young people with important gun safety rules.
Lesson 6: Computers and You
Designed to provide students with a better understanding of how a computer works and it's purpose.

Lesson 1: Laws and Rules - What is the Difference
Designed to improve the citizenship skills of students by understanding the rule of law in society and how laws pervade their daily living.
Lesson 2: Crime and the Community
Designed to help teens recognize crime. Students will look at under-utilized crime prevention and community building resources.
Lesson 3: Being Safe Means Recognizing Danger
Designed to bring awareness regarding personal safety issues so the student will recognize risks and the potential consequences of risks.
Lesson 4: Violence Does Not Belong in My School
Designed to help educate students on the cause and effect of violence and the seriousness of gangs. Also includes learning skills necessary for constructively handling conflict.
Lesson 5: Fire Prevention Begins with Me
Designed to increase the student's knowledge regarding fire prevention. Students will learn how to apply problem-solving skills to identify risks and consequences of playing with fire.
Lesson 6: Gun Safety We Can Live With
Designed to help students recognize that the misuse of weapons can cause serious injury or death. Law and legal requirements regarding weapons will also be addressed.
Lesson 7: Safety in Cyberspace
Designed to help students learn that the Internet is a fun and educational tool, but to use common sense as it can be very dangerous. Laws affecting Internet use will also be addressed.
High School Curriculum
45 Minute Lesson
Nine lessons are designed to educate young adults
on issues that can affect them.
Grades:
Ninth/Tenth/Eleventh/Twelfth
Lesson 1: Understanding Law Enforcement
Designed to provide a realistic picture of the roles and responsibilities of law enforcement officers at federal, state, and local levels.
Lesson 2: The Law and You
Designed to educate the students with practical application of constitutional law and the importance of a democratic society. Instruction will also address important legal issues for young people.
Lesson 3: Problem Solving - Gangs and Violence
Designed to provide a realistic look at what causes young people to get angry. This lesson also looks at ways to resolve conflict and develop problem-solving skills. A legal look at gangs, and Drug and Weapon Free School Zones will also be discussed.
Lesson 5: Understanding the Court System
Designed to provide the students with an educational lecture on the roles and functions of the court system. Interactive exercises will include various hypothetical court cases allowing the class to actively participate.
Lesson 6: Plain Facts about Fire: Facing the Consequences
Designed to provide fire safety education, develop fire-safe behavior, and avoid participation in fire play. Students will discuss fire situations and fire evacuation plans.
Lesson 7: Gun Safety Begins with You
Designed to introduce students to state and federal gun laws, as well as the significance of gun safety prevention. Students will develop solutions in regard to illegal firearms and unintentional deaths.
Lesson 8: Responsible Internet Use
Designed to educate students on personal protection awareness regarding the Internet. Laws that affect Internet use will also be discussed.
Lesson 9: A Relationship Is No Place For Violence
Designed to provide knowledge of the extent, causes, and solutions of domestic and dating violence. Laws that affect domestic and dating violence are addressed.
