Drug Abuse Resistance Education

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) is a comprehensive educational program designed to prevent or reduce drug abuse, violence, and gang involvement among school-age students.  The D.A.R.E. curricula are taught by specially trained law enforcement officers in every state, Bureau of Indian Affairs schools throughout the nation, and 49 other countries, and the have been implemented in U.S. Department of Defense Dependent Schools worldwide.

Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office currently has one  full-time D.A.R.E. officer, Deputy Jon Voelkner,  and eight part-time officers.  We deliver the 17 week program to over 1,200 students every year in the following school districts located in Washtenaw County:  Dexter, Lincoln, Manchester, Willow Run and Ypsilanti.

Every year, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office hosts it's annual D.A.R.E. golf outing.  This fundraiser generates the majority of the funding for the program.  The 2005 DARE golf outing will be held at Pierce Lake Golf Course in Chelsea on May 27th.
