Purchase Permits

CONCEALED WEAPONS APPLICATIONS

If you wish to apply and be considered for a Permit to carry a Concealed Weapon (CCW), you should pick up an application kit at the Washtenaw County Clerks Office 734-222-6730. Once you have complied with the requirements of the application:

• Pistol Safety Training Course
• Passport Quality Photo
• Submit the completed application form to the:
  Washtenaw County Clerk/Register’s  Office
  200 N. Main, Suite 120, Ann Arbor, MI
  (734) 222-6730.
  You will be charged $105.00 at this time. The Clerk's Office will issue you a receipt. Make sure you retain this receipt, as you will need to bring it with you to get fingerprinted.
• Bring the receipt from the Clerk's Office to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office between the hours of  8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
• Your Fingerprints will be forwarded to Lansing and it will take at least 8 weeks for processing. You will receive correspondence from the Washtenaw County Clerk when your application will be considered by the Gun Board.

HANDGUN REGISTRATION/SAFETY INSPECTION

To register your handgun, bring the unloaded gun in its case to the Front Desk, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  You will also need to bring a valid Michigan ID with current address and your purchase permit.  If you are a CCW holder, bring your CCW permit and the pistol sales record.

HANDGUN PURCHASE PERMIT

Handgun purchase permits are available at the Front Desk, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  You will need to bring a valid Michigan ID with current address.  There will be a $6.00 notary fee.  Purchase permits are valid for 10 days from date of receipt.

If you live in any of the following areas, please obtain your purchase permit at the respective police agency.  All other Townships, Villages and Cities within Washtenaw County may obtain their purchase permits at the Sheriff's Office at 2201 Hogback Rd. ~ Ann Arbor, 48105.

FINGERPRINTING

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office is currently responsible for processing applicant fingerprint background checks. Applicant fingerprint background checks are required for various reasons such as employment, carry concealed weapon, adoption, visa/immigration, etc.

Fingerprinting is performed at the Sheriff’s Office Front Desk Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. thru 3:30 p.m.
