WCSO efforts on Macarthur Blvd.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office puts their community engagement policing to the test. Since early May WCSO deputies and residents of the Macarthur Blvd. area have been working together to address the root causes of the issues in their neighborhood.
At the start of the summer the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office put into place a strategy to identify and address the root causes of crime in the Macarthur Blvd. community, we call this community engagement policing. Understanding that crime is not a law enforcement problem but that it is a community problem we have strived to become good community partners by listening to and working with neighborhood residents.
Law enforcement is but one very important tool that has contributed to the success of the neighborhoods efforts. Pulling together nieghbors, elected officials, apartment complex owners and managers, and teaming them with our deputies to wholistically adress the root causes of community problems is the strategy.
