WCSO personnel save two (2) more lives through the use of Naloxone

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office began training staff in the identification of a heroin overdose and on how to administer Naloxone to counteract the effect of the overdose at the beginning of August, 2015. To date, 70 deputies and 26 individuals from human service organizations throughout Washtenaw County have been trained in how to administer Naloxone. During this time period Sheriff’s Deputies have saved five (5) lives as a result of their training and ability to administer Naloxone.

WCSO have two (2) in custody after reported burglary in progress in Ypsilanti Township

On December 3, 2015, Deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress of a house under construction in Ypsilanti Township. Witnesses saw three (3) to four (4) subjects loading materials into a van and dialed 911 to report the incident. Sgt. Dave Egeler was the first to arrive on scene where the van was still running. The suspects fled on foot upon his arrival. Deputy Houk and his police service dog (PSD) Argo initiated a track to a nearby vacant home where a door had been kicked in, but no one was located. Deputies Larkin and Traskos searched the area as well and found a subject lying in the weeds, whom they took into custody.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office would like to announce the fourth installment of our commuity education series. This session will be presented in partnership with Friends of Restorative Justice and Community Mental Health. It will focus on the Seattle LEAD (Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion) program and the TJC (The Jail to Community) reentry program in Maryland and their potential application here in Washtenaw County.

Underwater Search and Recovery Team Welcomes Two (2) New Divers

The Underwater Search & Recovery Team (USRT) recently completed a three (3) day training aimed both at certifying our two (2) new divers and re-certifying current team divers as Surface Supplied Air Divers. The training was challenging, requiring ten (10) to twelve (12) hours of physically demanding work and diving each day. Notably, our new divers accumulated in excess of six (6) hours of bottom time over the three (3) day period inclusive of classroom time.
