WCSO & Human Society of Huron Valley looking for person(s) who killed a family of swans

Sometime around 6:15 a.m. on August 10th, 2016 a family of swans in the area of Parker Rd. and Scio Church Rd. were run over. Deputies were called to the area by numerous concerned citizens. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that 4 juvenile swans and one adult swan had been run over and killed.

The swans appear to have been sitting alongside the water’s edge when a vehicle heading south on Parker Road, from Scio Church Road, left the roadway and ran them over. The Swans that were killed are trumpeter swans. They are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. They’re also listed as a State of Michigan threatened species and protected under state laws.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the Humane Society of Huron Valley and the Department of Natural Resources are looking for what could possibly be a truck or Jeep that is lifted with 18 to 20 inch wheels and tires that are 13 1/2 inches wide.

If you have any information please call the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office confidential tip line at 734-973-7711.
