Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Win 2013 Battle of the Badges Tug of War Contest
The Sheriff’s Office represented Washtenaw County Law Enforcement Tuesday, March 26th in a Battle of the Badges Tug of War contest at the Detroit Pistons game. They faced off against Macomb County Sheriff winning 2 out of the 3 “wars” and being named the 2012 Battle of Badges Tug of War Champions. Participating in the event were Director Derrick Jackson, Deputy Thomas Guynes, Deputy Joe Montgomery, Sergeant Fred Garcia and Sergeant Beth Gieske.
This was the first year the Detroit Pistons hosted the "Battle of the Badges”. It consisted of two events, the first a basketball tournament with 4 teams participating earlier in the afternoon with Wayne County Police defeating Wayne County Fire in the championship game to become the first champions of the basketball game. The second event of the day consisted of a tug of war competition with Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office defeating Macomb County Sheriff in the final round. Winning teams will be asked to come back and defend their title each year.
The Battle of the Badges included both law enforcement and firefighters and will also be a charity event next season. For every ticket that gets purchased to the event and Pistons game, funds will go back to benefit police and fire departments.
