Corrections & Law Enforcement Written Exams

Empco, Inc. has partnered with the Michigan Sheriff's Association to provide these written entrance examinations.  The tests include both cognitive and attitude/personality testing components.  The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office requires a passing score of at least 75% to remain eligible for positions requiring the written exam.  Applicants are not required to wait until a position is posted to participate in an exam.  When registering for the Corrections and/or Law Enforcement (Deputy) exams, applicants are given the option to choose multiple counties throughout the state of Michigan; those County Sheriff's Offices can view your scores and use this process for recruitment purposes.  For additional information and to register for a test, please visit https://www.empco.net/msa. 

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is also a proud testing site for these written examinations (see below schedule).  The testing will be held at the Learning Resource Center (LRC) located at 4135 Washtenaw Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48108.  Please arrive thirty (30) minutes prior to the scheduled test time and make sure to bring your valid photo ID; please secure purses, cell phones, etc. in your vehicle prior to entering the testing facility.  The test will begin promptly at the listed time; you will not be permitted in the testing room if you arrive late, you will have to re-register for another test, and your money may not be refunded.  If you have any additional questions, please contact the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office Human Resources Division at (734)973-4650.

MCOLES Physical Agility Test

The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) Physical Fitness test information can be found at the MCOLES Website.  Various testing dates and locations are available and scores are valid for one (1) year from the date of the test.

Washtenaw County Clerical, Typing, and Data Entry Tests

The Clerical, Typing, and Data Entry Tests are administered each Wednesday morning (see schedule below).  Clerical/Typing testing is administered at 9:00 am and the Data Entry test is administered at 10:00 am.  No appointment is necessary, but you must be signed in by the test start time.  The typing and data entry tests may be retaken once every 30 days; the clerical test once in 60 days.

The test location is at the Washtenaw County Learning Resource Center, 4135 Washtenaw Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48108 (at the Washtenaw County Service Center, corner of Washtenaw Ave. and Hogback Rd).
