As your sheriff, I have spent the first few months in office attempting to assess the current status of the Sheriff’s Office and have begun putting in place strategies that will enhance our ability to provide quality, cost effective, and efficient public safety services for all of Washtenaw County.

We are working to put in place tools that will allow for an open and transparent communication structure that values input and builds trust with our community partners. With this as our foundation we will be responsive to all inquiries, provide accurate information in a timely fashion, set clear priorities, make unambiguous commitments, and measure and report on our performance. Sheriff and chiefs of police cooperate on a broad range of issue

Ann Arbor, MI, June 23, 2009 - Area law enforcement officials have been working together over the last five months to maintain and improve service levels in the face of unprecedented budget challenges. During the first weeks of his administration, Washtenaw County Sheriff, Jerry Clayton formed the Interagency Cooperation Team (ICT). At their first meeting in January, ICT members agreed that the group’s purpose is to identify, evaluate and implement opportunities for improving public safety and police services through collaborative, shared or merged services throughout Washtenaw County.
