Barbara Lucas Receives Rachel Carson Award in Communications
The Sierra Club of Huron Valley is honoring Barbara Lucas with the organization's Rachel Carson Award in Communications for her radio show 'The Green Room' and for her in-depth coverage of the Gelman Plume. Congratulations, Barbara!
Barbara Lucas has created 25 installments exploring the local 1,4-dioxane plume for The Green Room, a radio program airing regularly on WEMU's 89.1FM. These installments cover policy, detection, water treatment, liability and many more issues relating to the contamination in our community. For her comprehensive work, Barbara Lucas has received the Rachel Carson Award for Communications from the Sierra Club of Huron Valley.
The Green Room radio show is a collaboration between the WEMU News Department and the Washtenaw County Office of the Water Resources Commissioner. Through her work with the County, Barbara also co-produces a monthly Green Room television show with Ann Arbor's CTN, Channel 19.
The Green Room takes listeners out into the community to explore important, local environmental topics. Barbara not only gets to the heart of these issues, but she also provides a soundscape that supplements and enhances the subject matter, and advances the story in the minds of listeners.
David Fair, 89.1 WEMU News Director, serves as Executive Producer for the monthly radio program feature, which airs the last Friday of the month at 6:50 a.m. and 8:50 a.m.
