Introduction

The Allen's Creek Stormwater Initiative is a community response to pollution, flooding and the unique challenges we face in Allen's Creekshed (Map). The goal is to improve water quality and drainage by answering the fundamental questions: What is the extent of the problem? What can be done? When, where and how much?

Working with the community, the Initiative seeks to identify opportunities and implement key storm water improvement projects to better manage water quality, flow and flooding.  Individual efforts such as rain gardens / rain barrels will be explored, as well as infrastructure projects: bio-infiltration, constructed wetlands, porous pavement, mechanical treatment, and above and below-ground detention.

The Initiative is being directed by the City of Ann Arbor and the Washtenaw County Drain Commissioner. Planning partners include  Ann Arbor Public Schools District, University of Michigan, Allens Creek Watershed Group, Allen Creek Greenway Conservancy, Friends of West Park, The Huron River Watershed Council, and Peter Allen & Associates.
