Construction Begins!
July 17, 2006
The contractor has been at work for almost three weeks now. Erosion control measures have been installed, the site has been cleared, and the topsoil has been stripped and stockpiled for reuse. The temporary diversion channel is being constructed (see photo).
The next step is to excavate the area south of the pond 3’ deeper than it currently is (left side of the photo). This is where the new water treatment wetland will be constructed.
Once that is complete, the accumulated sediment in the pond will be removed and piled on-site to dry out. This sediment will eventually be removed. While the pond is being worked on, Malletts Creek will be diverted into the channel in the photo. This should occur in early August.
One delay in the work plan has been installation of a temporary construction fence. Because this was not originally part of the plan, there have been obstacles to sub-contracting this work. These issues should be cleared up and I expect fencing to be installed around the work area shortly. I apologize for the delay.
Despite the late start, rainy weather, and a few episodes of theft and vandalism, the project is not far behind schedule. If you have any questions or concerns, please email them to me.
