Allen's Creek Stormwater Initiative Kickoff Meeting
The first public meeting was held on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. A brief overview of flooding and water quality challenges in Allen's Creek was presented. Four small groups convened, and then reported-out their review of the project goals and objectives, individual concerns, potential project locations and evaluation criteria. Afterward, individuals were invited to speak.
Many potential project locations were discussed. One of the intended outcomes was to see if attendees had sufficient information to give the Drain Commissioner a recommendation to begin planning a project that would be eligible for low-interest funding through the State Revolving Loan Fund. Only projects on public property with significant water quality benefit would be eligible for that particular program (parks, schools, etc.).
The meeting ended with lively discussion. Many were interested in initiating a project, many were not. Most agreed that too much information was presented in too little time. We agreed to slow the process down a bit and reconvene at a later date.
