Serving as the customer's advocate, Veteran Services assists county veterans and their dependents in the pursuit of all veteran related benefits. Veteran programs and benefits are available at all levels of government. The trained specialists employed are available to pursue those entitlements and benefits.
Washtenaw County Veteran Services Office administers a state funded program known as the Michigan Veterans' Trust Fund (MVTF) . The MVTF is designed to assist honorably discharged wartime veterans and/or their dependents who experience temporary financial difficulties that are determined to be emergent in nature.
Wartime Dates are:
World War I: Apr 16, 1917 - Nov 11, 1918 (if service in Russia, then to Apr 1, 1920
World War II: Dec 7, 1941 - Dec 31, 1946
Korean Conflict era: Jun 27, 1950 - Jan 31, 1955
Post Korean: Feb 1, 1955 - Feb 27, 1961 must have an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (AFEM) or Viet Nam Service Medal (VSM) listed on the DD-214
Viet Nam era: Feb 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975
Persian Gulf era: Aug 2, 1990 - TBA
Other Conflicts must have the AFEM
