WHP Plan A
THE WHP PLAN A APPLICATION PERIOD IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER
NOTICE. (See "Important" note below!)
WHP "Plan A" - Applications/Forms
WHP "Plan A" is for Washtenaw County residents who enroll in the Adult
Benefit Waiver Program (ABW; also called "Adult Medical Program" or AMP;
formerly State Medical Program). In general, people who are likely to
qualify are:
- Adults age 18 through 64 with no dependent children
- With income up to 35% of the Poverty Level (according
to Michigan Medicaid). For example, in 2008 income for an individual must
not be more than about $3,640 per year; and
- A U.S. citizen or a non-citizen, legal resident in the U.S., usually
for at least 5 years; and
- Without private or public insurance such as Blue Cross, full Medicaid,
and Medicare.
IMPORTANT: Michigan Department of Human Services ABW (WHP Plan A)
is closed to new applicants as of February 29th, 2008.

BE AWARE THAT:
- ABW (WHP Plan A) has more comprehensive health benefits than WHP Plan B
(see "Covered Services" below).
- Currently WHP Plan B members who apply for ABW (WHP Plan A) and do NOT
qualify will NOT lose their WHP Plan B coverage.
COVERED SERVICES:
WHP Plan A Covers:
- Primary health care from WHP Primary Providers;
- Diagnostic tests such as X-rays, laboratory tests and others;
- Some pre-approved specialty care services;
- Inpatient hospitalization (in Washtenaw County only);
- Emergency Room services for "true emergencies";
- A limited number of prescription drugs (mostly generic drugs);
- Outpatient mental health visits (limited number).
WHP Plan A has more comprehensive health benefits than WHP Plan
B. For example, WHP Plan A benefits are:
- $1 co-payments for both brand and generic prescription drugs;
- More psychotropic prescription drugs (for mental health
conditions);
- Prescription drugs for HIV-AIDS;
- Emergency Room services outside of Washtenaw County for "true
emergencies"; and
- Ground ambulance for "true emergencies."
