Have you tested your home for Radon?

Find out how you can get a radon test for only $5.00 from January 17 - 31, 2012!

Radon is a tasteless, colorless, and odorless radioactive gas. It is found in nearly all types of soil and rock. Radon can enter homes through cracks in the foundation, dirt floors, hollow-block walls, and openings around floor drains and sump pumps. Current estimates show that as many as 40%-45% of homes in Washtenaw County have elevated levels of radon.

Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer for smokers and the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers in the United States. Research shows that radon is associated with 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the United States.

The Washtenaw County Public Health Department’s Environmental Health Division is observing January 2012 as National Radon Action Month. We are offering radon home test kits for half price - only $5.00 - from January 17 - 31, 2012.  Visit our office at 705 N. Zeeb Rd. in Ann Arbor, or call Angie Parsons at 734-222-3869 to order a radon test by mail (additional $2 postage).
