Washtenaw Steps Up continues in 2008

Washtenaw County Public Health is pleased to announce that the Michigan Department of Community Health's Cardiovascular Health, Nutrition, and Physical Activity Section has granted Washtenaw Steps Up (WSU) a third year of funding! Through the state and federal funds provided through MDCH as well as several generous sources of local match, Washtenaw Steps Up will continue to work toward improving policies and environments that make it easier to be physically active and eat healthy foods in Washtenaw County.

Here's a quick look at some of the WSU projects for '08:

  • In Saline, the Pick Up the Pace, Saline coalition will use equal amounts of WSU and City of Saline funds to rehabilitate boggy and water-damaged sections of the one-mile Max Adler trail.
  • In Ypsilanti, the Ypsilanti Health Coalition will continue to support the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers' Market by funding marketing efforts and providing healthy cooking demonstrations and samples for food stamp recipients. They will also collaborate with community leaders in the Parkridge Park neighborhood to make needed park enhancements.
  • WSU funds will also support nutrition education programs through Growing Hope in Ypsilanti and Migrant Health Promotion in Manchester.
