Bringing smoke-free policies to a building near you!

The Washtenaw County Tobacco Reduction Coalition is working to bring smoke-free policies to a building near you! Partnering with Washtenaw Steps Up coalitions, several communities are working to strengthen local smoke-free policies, reduce the use of tobacco by both youth and adults, and improve the health of community residents.

http://mihealthtools.org/smokefree/ Ypsilanti Health Coalition, Pick Up the Pace, Saline!, and Healthy Communities Chelsea, Dexter, Manchester will each complete the Smoke-Free Community Assessment Tool. This tool assists groups in determining existing policies and identifying important next steps in expanding smoke-free policies community-wide.

The tool is divided into seven sections, resulting in a comprehensive assessment of smoking policies in your area. Communities can use the entire assessment as a comprehensive tool or use it to focus on a specific area. The sections are:

  • municipalities
  • cessation services
  • worksites/businesses
  • restaurants
  • school districts
  • survey of public officials
  • college campuses

The Smoke Free Community Assessment Tool is a first step in creating healthy and smoke-free communities.
