- September 18 - Growing Hope’s “Tour de Fresh: Ypsilanti Garden and Food System Tour” - 5:30-8 pm. Sign in begins at 5 pm at the Ypsilanti Downtown Farmers Market (Michigan Avenue and Hamilton); tour (driving or biking) leaves at 5:30 pm, ending with a light meal made by local gardeners! - September 21-23 - 9th Annual African American Breast Cancer Conference - Held in Chicago, IL, the purpose of the conference is to provide a broader scope of knowledge that addresses the breast cancer survivorship crisis affecting the African American woman. Educational goals include: To STOP THE SILENCE, To replace FEAR with HOPE, To empower women through positive messages, and To provide survivorship options to complement quality of life decisions. - September 24 - Sickle Cell Disease Blood Drive - The Ann Arbor Community Center is sponsoring a blood drive with the American Red Cross and the University of Michigan Sickle Cell Disease/Cancer Research Department from 1:00-7:00pm at 625 North Main Street, Ann Arbor (734-662-3128). This drive will kick-off Sickle Cell Awareness Week in Ann Arbor. There will also be a mini-health at the event. If you are interested in having a booth at the fair please call 734-662-3128. - September 30 - Ann Arbor AIDS Walk - The Ann Arbor AIDS Walk benefits the HIV/AIDS Resource Center and the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan. Last year, almost $40,000 was raised and over 500 walkers participated. The Ann Arbor AIDS Walk starts from the Detroit Edison parking lot on the corner of Main and William. Registration begins at 12:00 noon and the walk starts at 1:00pm with a lot of fun activities beforehand and prizes afterwards. Register online and get more information through the event website.
