FSEP aims for sustainable food systems

www.fsepmichigan.orgThe Food System Economic Partnership (FSEP) exists to catalyze change in the food system of Southeastern Michigan. We provide research, education and outreach with urban and rural partnerships, resulting in agricultural development opportunities, sustainable communities, and healthy local economies.

One of the projects in progress in Washtenaw County is a Farm to School demonstration project. Two Washtenaw County school districts (Chelsea and Ann Arbor) have expressed interest in working with FSEP to bring local food products into their school food service programs. A Farm Day was successfully implemented in Chelsea in Nov, 2006 with many students having the opportunity to taste new vegetables and learn more about how they grow.

FSEP is having a local conference featuring many elements of the local food system. This conference will take place at Washtenaw Community College on March 25. Check the FSEP website for registration details to be released shortly!
