Are You Interested in a Leadership Role with the CHC?

The terms of office for Ruth Shantz, CHC Chair, and Measie James, Vice-Chair, are coming to an end. Kudos and thanks to both for their leadership in improving the health of our community! HIP gratefully acknowledges their two years of service and commitment to improving health in our community.

Now, the tough question.are YOU interested in throwing your hat in the ring? Taking a leadership role in HIP is a small time commitment with a big payoff of deeper connections with other partner agencies in HIP and a more public role in the HIP process. Washtenaw County Public Health staff provide support to the Chairs. The new Chairs will take office in March, 2006 for a two-year term.

Primary CHC Chair duties are as follows:

Chair CHC meetings;

Membership on HIP Coordinating Committee (which meetings bi-monthly in non-CHC months). The Coordinating Committee takes big-picture perspective of HIP, plans and guides the HIP process;

Act as a public representative of HIP to the broader community, possibly talking to the media or local groups about the importance of the health issues HIP works on.

The CHC Vice-Chair duties are as follows:

Assists the chair with the above duties and fills in running CHC meetings when necessary;

Acts as meet and greet person at CHC meetings to welcome newcomers;

Membership on HIP Coordinating Committee (see above).

It is not required that vice-chair run for chair the following year, but it may make sense for the person in this role to move up into that position. Dont forget, HIP staff will be available to help both chairs in any way necessary.

Potential candidates should write a short description (no more than half a page) that includes their reason for seeking the chair or vice-chair position; personal or professional experience that equips them for the job; and any other information they would like to share. CHC members will vote at the January 10, 2006 CHC meeting and also may submit ballots by mail if they cannot attend that meeting. Results will be shared at the March 14, 2006 CHC meeting, and the Chairs will take office at that meeting.
