A Call for Regional Membership

The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners recently amended the Planning Advisory Board’s Bylaws to include representation from each of the five regional planning groups.  We believe this regional planning group perspective on the Planning Advisory Board will provide valuable communication and feedback for both us and our local governments as it relates to the planning and land use goals of your communities and the County as a whole.

Regional groups are being asked to forward their nominations for Planning Advisory Board membership to us by January 16th.   If there are multiple members interested in being nominated, please forward all names to us.  They will then be sent to the Board of Commissioners for consideration and confirmation of one individual per each regional group at their January 23, 2008 Board meeting.   When determining who to nominate for this role, we encourage you to consider the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of planning policies and issues,
  • Provides decision making authority or a direct link to decision makers as it relates to planning and land use decisions,
  • Commits to viewing and addressing issues from a regional perspective,
  • Ensures information and communication flows between represented regional group or agency and the PAB,
  • Attends and participates in all scheduled PAB and assigned subcommittee meetings on a regular basis

We are also attaching the following documents for your review and consideration as you determine who to nominate:
