Collection is limited to 3 - 32 gallon containers and 1 bulk item per week; this does not include white goods (appliances). Containers may be garbage cans and/or plastic bags.
Set your trash in:
On these holidays there will be no curbside collection of trash, recycling, yard waste or brush. During a week where one of these holidays occurs, collection for the days on and following the holiday will occur one day later than the usual collection date. (If your regularly scheduled collection day is Friday, collection will be on Saturday.) All other holidays throughout the year do not affect collection schedules.
Bulk Items
Bulk items include such items as a couch, chair, mattress, box spring, dresser, one 4 foot tied bundle of construction debris, microwave, table or any non-appliance type item. One bulk item will be collected per home per week.
White Goods (Appliances)
White goods include such items as a stove, refrigerator, air conditioner, washer and dryer, dishwasher and hot water heater. Ypsilanti Township residents may take these items to the Compost Site at no charge, purchase a bulk item sticker for $10.00 per item from the Township and place it the curb for collection or use an alternative disposal options.
Additional Containers and Bulk Items
In order to have additional containers and bulk items collected, stickers and tags must be purchased and placed on each additional container and/or bulk item. Tags for garbage containers will be $1.50, stickers for bulk items and white goods will be $10. Tags and stickers can be purchased at the Township Hall, 7200 S. Huron River Drive, at the Community Center, 2025 E. Clark Road, or at the Residential Services Office, 9075 S. Huron River Drive.
Construction Materials
Construction materials will be collected only if placed in bundles no larger than four feet and weighing no more than 50 pounds. Nails must be pounded flat or removed. Loose materials such as shingles and drywall must be placed in a container not to exceed 50 pounds.
- Milk and juice cartons (no plastic caps or straws).
- Glass food and beverage containers: clear, green, or brown glass bottles and jars only; rinse and leave labels on.
Drinking glasses, dinnerware, window glass, picture glass or broken glass are not accepted.
- Plastic bottles including small-mouthed bottles that have a 1 (PET) or 2 (HDPE) on the bottom. No tubs, trays, lids, toys or bags. No motor oil or antifreeze bottles, even with a 1 or 2 on the bottom; rinse, discard caps and flatten if possible.
- Metal cans and aluminum. Metal and aluminum no-deposit cans, clean aluminum foil & disposable pie tins/baking trays; rinse free of food, leave labels on.
- Paper: brown paper bags, mixed paper and junk mail, boxboard, newspapers, glossy insert, magazines, phone books and paperback books (no hardcover books).
- Corrugated cardboard (small volumes). Cut to size no larger than 2' by 2' and place in, next to or on top of your red bin. No pizza boxes. Larger volumes should be flattened and taken to a roll-off site.
- Household batteries. Place in sealed clear plastic bag next to your recycling bin.
Note: Car batteries can be taken to the Compost Site at 2600 East Clark Road for recycling.
The roll-off recycling sites are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Acceptable items for recycling are listed above.

Yard waste stickers may be obtained at the Residential Services Department located at Ford Lake Park, 9075 S. Huron River Dr.
In addition to curbside collection, yard waste and brush may also be taken to the Compost Site (details after Brush Collection information).
Brush is any wood from pruning trees or cutting trees that is between 1 and 6 inches in diameter. Smaller brush and vines should be placed in yard waste bags.
Stumps smaller than 2 feet in diameter (including the roots) or less than 30 pounds (with all dirt hosed off) may also be chipped.
