Solid Waste Services

  • Superior Township has a contract with Republic Services as its preferred waste hauler.
  • Please call Republic Services at the number above if you have any questions about your service.
  • Collections are once per week at curbside. Collection times will vary but should be ready for collection by 7:00 a.m. to avoid having to store the trash until the next service day.
  • Holiday Schedule - Collection service during holiday weeks will be delayed one day after the holiday. We observe New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day holidays.
  • Items we pick up with the trash:
    • Cans or bags not heavier than 50 pounds. If you use bags, be sure they are strong enough to handle the weight you are putting in them.
    • Please package glass carefully. Double or triple bag and label to avoid injury or shattering.
    • “White goods” (large household appliances), broken furniture, carpeting by the room, water heaters, and TV sets will be picked up if you call 1-800-234-3311 in advance and make arrangements with Republic. Our trained Customer Service Representatives can inform you of any extraordinary handling requirements.

Yard Waste Services

  • Compost (yard waste) service is available only April 1 until November 30 each year and is picked up on your regular trash day by a separate truck. Michigan law prohibits yard waste material (grass clippings, leaves and brush or tree limbs less than 3” in diameter) from being deposited in landfills. Compost material must be placed in brown paper “Kraft” bags (available at most hardware stores or nurseries) or loose in trash cans with handles. Cans must be clearly marked “COMPOST”. Small limbs or brush can be securely tied in bundles that do not exceed 4 feet in length or 50 pounds in weight. Under no circumstances can Repubic pick up yard waste material in plastic bags. Due to their size, Christmas trees are not considered to be compost and will be picked up as trash after the holidays.

Tagged Bag Service

  • For customers with low volumes of trash Republic Services offers a tagged bag service. Packets of 10 tags can be purchased at the Township Office for $18.50. One tag per bag (or can) to be picked up. Solid wast tags are yellow; recycle tags are green. If  you are signed up for the bag-tag service,  you may use the recycle service, but not the yard waste program.

Additional Services

  • Republic offers temporary clean-up and/or construction containers in 10, 20, 30 & 40 cubic yard sizes and permanent commercial dumpsters in 2, 4, 6 & 8 cubic yard sizes. Call and ask for a Sales Representative for more information.
