Solid Waste Services

The Village of Dexter has a contract with Waste Management as its sole waste hauler.

online for information on curbside collection days, as well as holiday collection schedules.

Spring Clean-up: The Village provides expanded collection of trash, appliances, yard waste, and bulky items once per year. The date is usually scheduled the first or second Friday in May. Materials must be placed at the curb for collection.

In addition to Spring Clean-up, residents can arrange for collection of an appliance, item of furniture, or other bulky item twice per year (or two items at once), at no additional cost. A small fee may apply to some items. Arrangements must be made in advance with Waste Management, 800-796-9696.
Recycling Services
- Recycling is collected once a week by Waste Management on the same day as trash pick-up.

- Recycle bins are available at the Village office, 8140 Main Street, for a small fee.
- Acceptable Materials:
- Paper: boxboard, phone books, newspaper, mixed office paper, magazines, and cardboard
- Metals: aluminum and tin cans
- Plastic: #1 PET plastic and #2 HDPE plastic, bottles only. No #1 or #2 tubs or plastics with #3-7.
- Glass: Clear, green, and brown glass bottles and jars.
- Household alkaline batteries: Put used, non-leaking household batteries in a self-sealing plastic food bag. Place in recycle bin.
Yard Waste
- Yard waste is collected by Waste Management once a week from April through November.
- Yard waste includes: grass clippings, leaves, garden debris, and shrubs and brush trimmings.
- Yard waste set out options:
- Use 20 to 32 gallon cans with a yard waste sticker attached and facing the street. Stickers are available at the Village office.
- Place yard waste in designated paper yard waste bags available at local retail stores.
- Bundle brush and branches that are 2 inches in diameter or less in 3-4 foot bundles with string.
- Place yard waste at least 10 feet from your rubbish or on opposite sides of the driveway.
- If you plan to have an open fire, visit the Village office at 8140 Main Street, 734-426-8303, to obtain a permit.
