Yard Waste
- The Department of Public Works (DPW) does not pick up grass clippings. Residents may take leaves, weeds, and lawn rakings to the Chelsea Transfer Station, 8027 Werkner Road, to be added to the City compost pile. Empty plastic bags at the site free of charge.
- Brush and tree trimmings are collected by the DPW at the beginning of the 2nd week of every month.
- Place brush on your lawn extension (between the sidewalk and the street), not in the street.
- Stack brush neatly with cut ends facing the same direction, to allow for efficient pick-up. Stack in low piles to avoid blocking the view of traffic.
- Brush trimmings should be no longer than four inches in diameter and cut to a reasonable length that one person can easily handle.
- Place Christmas trees on your lawn extension to be collected during the month of January. Residents are asked to please remove all plastic and wire/nails from the trees, wreaths and roping.
- Burning leaves or brush is illegal in the City of Chelsea.
