Update on the Lake Management Plan for Whitmore Lake: Please view the attached PDF file for the 2005 Annual Report for Whitmore Lake's Management Plan.
Whitmore Lake Improvement Project : The Whitmore Lake Water Quality Advisory Board met in May and is excited to report that the efforts to improve lake quality in 2004 were a success. This means the outlook for boating, swimming and fishing this summer is outstanding. Two treatments have been applied this summer to control algae and a few areas where the invasive curlyleaf pondweed has been found growing. Residential Solid Waste Profile & Assessment Report: The Washtenaw County Department of Planning and Environment completed this project to address the challenges and opportunities facing the county solid waste management system. The report intends to stimulate discussions of the findings and recommendations and to assist local units of government in developing residential solid waste systems that are convenient and cost-effective, sustainable, promote waste reduction and recycling as well as reduce impacts to the environment and public health.
Washtenaw County Sponsors Regional Clean-up Days: Washtenaw County Solid Waste Program is sponsoring a series of regional environmental clean-up days, which will provide a free recycling drop off service for all county residents. This is an opportunity for the residents of Washenaw County to dispose of many unwanted household wastes in a safe and sustainable manner....

Lake Management/Improvement Projects-- Major Project Steps (pdf): The Public Works team with support from the Board of Public Works can help local communities commence lake management and improvement projects. Such projects can enhance fisheries habitat, improve water quality, protect and increase property values and ameliorate recreational opportunities.

Home Toxics Reduction Program
Details provided about the home toxics collection site and
information on common household toxics such as mercury, computers and
sharps.
Waste Knot Program
Waste Knot Program aims to develop relationships within the
Washtenaw County business community to
increase waste reduction and recycling activities. To
achieve its mission, the Waste Knot Program provides community-wide
recognition and organization-based technical assistance along with
value-added education to organizations that exhibit leadership in waste
reduction and recycling or to organizations that desire to become leaders in
waste reduction and recycling. There 165 partners already leading the
way in Washtenaw County!
Infrastructure Assistance Program
The Division of Public Works can help local communities address their public
and environmental health issues by providing communities with project
management and financial assistance needed to construct sewage disposal and
water supply infrastructure as well as plan and implement lake management
projects.
Board of Public Works
The Board of Public Works, authorized and appointed by the Washtenaw County
Board of Commissioners, focuses on helping local communities address
their environmental and public health problems and issues.
