Natural Areas Presevation Program
Total Land Protected: 780 acres
Adminsitered by WCPARC since 2001
Washtenaw County is serious about land preservation. There are a number of agencies, programs and individuals dedicated to protecting the natural and cultural resources around the County. While collaboration among these entities is ongoing, in August 2005 many came together to better facilitate land preservation across jurisdictional boundaries. Whether collaboration means sharing information or sharing the cost of land purchases, this group is making a difference. For instance, plans are underway to create tools that will simplify the process for landowners, such as a website with information about all land preservation initiatives in the County.
NAPP success stories include WCPARCs purchase of the Leonard Preserve in Manchester & Sharon Townships, which would not have been possible without The Nature Conservancy. And WCPARC is currently working with SMLC to preserve more natural areas in Superior Township.
