A voluntary binding agreement that permanently limits a particular property to conservation-compatible uses and activities, thereby protecting biodiversity, water quality, wildlife habitat, etc. This type of easement is used to protect land by purchasing the development rights without buying the property outright. The owner retains title to the land which stays on the tax rolls and remains economically productive. All conservation easements acquired through the Washtenaw County Natural Areas Preservation program allow for public access to the land.
Fee Simple Title
The right of ownership to land without any restrictions.
Public Access Easement
An easement is the right to use the real property of another without possessing it. Easements are helpful for providing pathways across two or more pieces of property.
