Junior Naturalist: Where The Deer Trail Goes (Sunday, December 3rd, 2018, 1:00pm to 3:00pm)

Learn about the life history of deer and how to identify tracks, scat, and more!We'll hike to find signs of deer, follow a deer trail and explore the exciting hidden places it leads! Program led by Kelsey Dehring. Pre-registration is required, maximum of 10 children. This program is FREE, but vehicle entrance fee is required. To register your child, please click here! Wild Nuts (Sunday, December 10th, 2018, 2:00pm to 4:00pm) 

Join us for a nature hike to learn some of the edible wild nut trees of the Eastern Hardwood Forest and how to make hickory nut milk over the fire, a staple winter food of the Anishinaable people. This program is FREE, but vehicle entrance fee is required. 

Winter Marsh Walk (Saturday, January 20th, 2018, 10:00am to 12:00pm) 

Venture to Cordgrass Marsh with naturalist Kelsey Dehring. We'll explore how different the wetland is compared to warmer months, and look for signs of mink and coyote. If frozen, we'll explore wetland areas of the park that are quite challenging to access in the warmer months. If the wetlands are not frozen, we'll explore at the wetlands edge. This program is FREE, but vehicle entrance fee is required.

Snowshoe Clinic (Sunday, January 21st, 2018, 1:00pm to 3:00pm) 

WCPARC is partnering with REI for this great opportunity to learn about snowshoes and to try them out!  REI snowshoe specialists will be onsite to educate about the equipment, followed by a snowshoe hike led by park naturalists.  REI will have a limited pairs of snowshoes to lend, so preregister at parksonline.ewashtenaw.org starting December 15th to reserve your space! This program is FREE, but vehicle entrance fee is required. Winter Fireside Story Time (Saturday, February 3rd, 2018, 10:00am to 12:00pm)

Winter at Independence Lake Park just got cozier!  Relish quality family time next to our indoor fireplace with winter books and refreshments.  Choose a story to read with your family from the variety of children books that will be provided, and enjoy listening to the story of the hour.  This program is recommended for children (ages 3 to 8) accompanied by an adult.  Please preregister at parksonline.ewashtenaw.org starting December 15th. This program is FREE, but vehicle entrance fee is required. Ice Fishing Derby (Saturday, February 10th, 2018, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Join us for a fun-filled day of competition and prizes! Catch Northern Pike, Blue Gill, and Crappie. Gift cards and other prizes for winners of the “Longest Northern Pike” & “Longest Pan fish”. Bring your own bait. No alcohol, ATV’s or snowmobiles.  Cost is as follows: Pre-registration- $10 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and under, Event Day Registration- $15 for adults, $10 for kids 12 and under. Registration fee includes lunch. 'Walk and Snap' Photo Hike (Sunday, February 18th, 2018, 1:00pm to 3:00pm)

Michigan winter can be the perfect subject or backdrop for photography. This program offers participants the opportunity to explore winter nature and basic photography with an expert. No experience is necessary, and photos can be taken with a smartphone or camera. All ages are welcome to this event. This program is FREE, but vehicle entrance fee is required.
