Snowshoe Clinic (Saturday, February 24th, 2018, 10:00am to 12:00pm)

WCPARC is partnering with REI for this great opportunity to learn about snowshoes and to try them out!  REI snowshoe specialists will be onsite to educate about the equipment, followed by a snowshoe hike led by park naturalists.  REI will have a limited pairs of snowshoes to lend, so preregister at parksonline.ewashtenaw.org starting December 15th to reserve your space! This program is FREE, but vehicle entrance fee is required. Lifeguard Class (Wednesday, March 7th - Sunday, March 11th)

We are running a low cost Red Cross certification lifeguarding class this spring, March 7th through 11th 2018! If you are interested in getting lifeguard certified, need to get recertified, know someone that wants to get lifeguard certified, or know someone that needs to get recertified this class is a great opportunity to do so! Must attend all dates and times, complete and pass online potion and written exam to receive certification. Please contact Julie Pahl, pahlj@ewashtenaw.org or (734)449-4437 ex 201 if you have any questions or would like to register for the class.

Wed 3/7/18     4-8pm CPR at Indy

Thurs 3/8/18    4-8pm Pool at WLHS

Fri 3/9/18         4-10pm Pool at WLHS

Sat 3/10/18      8-10:45am CPR Indy

Sat 3/10/18      11am-1pm Pool at WLHS

Sat 3/10/18      1-3pm Exam at WLHS

Sat 3/10/18      4-10pm Pool at WLHS

Sun 3/11/18     8-10am Pool at WLHS

Class locations:

-          Independence Lake County Park: 3200 Jennings Rd. Whitmore Lake, MI 48189

-          Whitmore Lake High School Pool: 7430 Whitmore Lake Rd, Whitmore Lake, MI 48189

Class cost:

-          $100

-          Fee apply for both first time certification and recertification.

Prerequisites:

-          You must be 15 years of age or older to take the class

-          You must be 16 years of age or older to work for Washtenaw County Parks

-          Before you can take the class you must be able to do the following:

-          Swim 300 yards of free style and breast style not stopping (goggles are allowed)

-          Tread water for 2 minutes with your arms under your armpits

-          Swim 20 yards, go down 12 feet to retrieve a 10 pound brick, bring it back up to the top, and swim with holding it on your chest with both hands back 20 yards to the other side of the pool. (goggles are not allowed)

-          If we are unsure about your swimming ability we may ask you to meet with us prior to the start of class to make sure you can pass the prerequisites.

Backpacking Basics (Sunday, March 18th, 2018, 2:00pm-3:30pm)

REI will take the mystery out of backpacking with an overview of planning, preparation and gear.  This program is FREE, but vehicle entry is required.  Pre-register at parksonline.ewashtenaw.org.  Contact pahlj@ewashtenaw.org for more details.
