Junior Naturalist: Frog Songs Night Hike (Saturday, April 29th, 2017; 6:30-8:30pm)
Learn about Michigan's 13 species of anurans and ways you can support frog conservation. Hike to listen for frog calls. This program is FREE, but vehicle entry fee is required.

Moths Galore: (Saturday, May 20th, 2017; 7-9pm)
Learn about the exciting world of moths with Guest Naturalist Cassie Lovall. A presentation will be held inside showcasing the various species of moths found in Michigan. In addition, learn how to build a moth "trap," followed by outdoor viewing of live moths using black light. Limit 20 people. This program is FREE, but vehicle entry fee is required.

30 Day Challenge Flyer

30 Day Challenge! (Saturday, July 1st, 2017 - Sunday, July 30th, 2017)
In honor of National Parks & Recreation Month, Washtenaw County Parks would like to challenge residents & non-residents of Washtenaw County to get outside for 30 minutes every day, for 30 days, during the month of July to "Get Your Play On!"

How to submit your photos!

In order to have your photo considered for the 30 Day Challenge the photo file must include your email address, your name and park/preserve or facility you visited, so we can contact you in case you are a winner. By submitting your photo to the Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission Dropbox account you understand that any pictures taken of you or your family may be used for future promotion, or may be displayed on Facebook.

JUNIOR NATURALIST: SOLAR SYSTEM EXPLORATION (Thursday, June 22 – 10:30 a.m.- 12 p.m.)

For kids 7-12 years old.Explore the vastness of our solar system without having to take a spaceship! We’ll visit our moon, walk among the planets, and gaze upon constellations. This program will be led by Kelsey Bolda. Park entry fee required. Pre-registration is required - maximum 10 kids per program.  To register your child, visit parksonline.ewashtenaw.org. JUNIOR NATURALIST: MARSH MADNESS (Saturday, July 8th – 10:30 a.m.- 12 p.m.)

For kids 7-12 years old. Marshes are beautiful ecosystems and full of amazing creatures. For this program we’ll learn the important roles of a marsh, and look for the little creatures that call it home using dip nets. This program will be led by Kelsey Bolda.  Park entry fee required. Pre-registration is required - 10 children maximum. To register your child, visit parksonline.ewashtenaw.org. PERSEID METEOR SHOWER VIEWING/NIGHT SKY MINI-LECTURE: (Saturday, August 12th – 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.) 

 A peak viewing night to see the Perseid “shooting stars” is tonight and early morning and the park will be open special hours for this program!   Naturalist Ron Gamble will give a short talk on meteor shower viewing and on the August night sky in general, starting at 9 at the Beach Center Pavilion.  The park will close at 1 a.m. -No overnight stays for this viewing.  Program is subject to cancellation if weather is not suitable.  Registrants will be notified.  For more information email Kelsey Bolda at boldak@ewashtenaw.com. Park entry fee required. Pre-registration is required to attend.  To register, visit parksonline.ewashtenaw.org. Family Campout Flyer 2017
Family Campout (Saturday, September 9th- Sunday, September 10th, 2017, 2pm-10am)

Are you looking for a great opportunity to spend a night out under the stars with your family? Join us for the Independence Lake County Park Family Campout! You'll enjoy fun activities like crafts, relaxing fishing at the dock, intriguing nature programs, delicious s'mores, a sizzling campfire and a scrumptious pancake breakfast! You won't want to miss out on this spectacular event. Cost is $8/person, click here to download the paper registration form.

Big Foot, Small Print Trail Run (Saturday, September 30th, 8am - 12pm)
Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission is partnering with the Huron River Watershed Council in the Big Foot Small Print Trail Run to further support healthy and vibrant communities in Washtenaw County. Enjoy the beautiful fall colors that Independence Lake County Park has to offer while running or walking this scenic 4 mile course. This event offers a 1 mile kid’s fun run/walk for children all ages, so bring the whole family!  Proceeds will benefit the Huron River Watershed Council.

The Scarecrow Mystery Dash (Saturday, October 7th, 2017; 11am - 2pm)Scarecrow Mystery Dash Flyer 2017

Looking for a little mystery this fall? Come to Independence Lake County Park and visit Scarecrow Lane, where you can solve a mystery, and enjoy family friendly activities! Activities include: building your own scarecrow, participating in crafts, conquering the Halloween obstacle course, competing in a spider toss, and enjoying delicious cider & doughnuts. You won’t want to miss out on this WCPARC original event!
