Sharon Mills is a beautiful historic site. The original garden plantings there were simple, Blacked-eyed-susans, purple and white coneflower and daisies were the major flowers. The court-yard garden has four Amelanchier on either side of the two paths leading onto the brick patio, and plantings of old-fashion Hydrangea, Creeping Phlox, Lavender, and Mums give color there. The ‘Mill Race’ has plantings of Viburnum, Fothergilla, Aromatic Sumac, and Penstemmon, with Red-Twig Dogwood and Daylillies standing as sentinels at each end of the bridges, dam, and canoe launch sites.

Master Gardener volunteers have endorsed the theme of “Old Fashion” plantings. In the summer of 2004 many more beautiful flowering plants and 250 Daffodil bulbs were added to the original landscaping.

Look for a spring sweep of Daffodils along the parking lot wall and in front of the mill building!
