Educational Opportunities
Educational programs of various kinds are available free to
residents of Washtenaw County through the interpretive staff of Washtenaw
County Parks and Recreation. If you have special interests, our staff is
interested in working with you to develop a program that will meet your

A hike through a wetland... Catching 12 different insects in one
net...Seeing flour made the way it was done 100 years ago
- Offered all seasons of the year
- Programs are typically offered during the day on weekends; however,
some programs are held in the evening and in summer there are even some
weekday programs
- Program focus varies - we tailor programs for young children, families,
and adults
- Most programs are outdoor programs/hikes, however, we do offer some
programs that use both indoor and outdoor work - very few programs are
indoor only
- Senior groups, church groups, summer camps, etc. can schedule nature
programs or mill tours
Historic Mill Tours for the General
Public
- Tours of 1870s grist (flour)
mill offered seasonally, log cabin on site as well
- Tours of 1930s Henry Ford Village Industry site offered only
seasonally
School Programs/Field Trips
- Programs for all ages, including preschoolers
- Parks and preserves located throughout Washtenaw County
- Programs with nature/science focus and programs with historical focus
offered, topics can possibly be teacher suggested
- Visit/experience an 1870s grist (flour) mill that is still operational
and/or an 1870s log cabin
- Visit a 1930s Henry Ford Village Industry site
Scout Programs/Field Trips
- Programs for K- 5th
- Parks and preserves located throughout Washtenaw County
- Topics can be leader requested, or be general and seasonally
focused
- Several nature/ecology focused programs available
- Visit/experience an 1870s grist (flour) mill that is still operational
and /or an 1870s log cabin
- Visit a 1930s Henry Ford Village Industry site
Please Note:
- All group appointments are dependent on staff availability
- Most, but not all, general public programs are free for Washtenaw
County residents
- Donations are requested, but not required, for group programming. No
group from Washtenaw County will be turned away
- Groups from outside Washtenaw County must pay a programming fee
