I Have a Story: Techniques in Oral Memoir Writing

Beginning in Fall 2003, Washtenaw County LBPD has been offering workshops for library consumers on memoir writing. Participants learn how to shape and organize their own personal stories and how to record them using cassette tape recorders loaned by the Library.   The Fall 2003 workshop was facilitated by Emily Harrington, a PhD Candidate in English at the University of Michigan.  The Fall 2004, Winter 2005 and Fall 2005 workshops were facilitated by Mary-Catherine Harrison, also a PhD candidate in English at the University of Michigan.  Roberta McCall, Vision Rehabilitation Specialist, Michigan Commission for the Blind, provided instruction on how to use a cassette tape recorder to record memories.

The workshop is being offered a sixth time in Summer 2007, and again in 2008.

On December 21, 2004, The Ann Arbor News highlighted activities of I Have a Story.
