Events and Programs: LBPD Book Lovers Club

Book Lovers Club LogoThis program is open to all LBPD consumers and guests of consumers.  Participants enjoy lively discussion about selected books during sessions held at LBPD, prompting new friendships and support.  Sessions are held six times a year.  Each session lasts two hours.  Two titles are usually selected per session (one Fiction, one Non-Fiction title).  Participants are encouraged to read the selected titles, although it is not necessary.  Light refreshments are served.  Contact LBPD to recieve copies of the book(s) in advance.

Biography of Albert Einstein, who won the 1921 Nobel Prize for physics.  Discusses Einstein's private and public life, including his years in America, work that led to the development of the atomic bomb, commitment to Zionism and Pacificism, familial relationships, and love of playing the violin.  Bestseller.  2007.  Narrated by Ralph Lowenstein.  6 cassettes.

Historical novel set in twelth century England.  Philip, prior of the monastery at Kingsbridge, and Tom, a master mason, would like to build a new cathedral.  They are helped along when Tom's stepson torches the current cathedral.  They are hindered, however, by a powerful and jealous bishop and Ellen, who witnessed an ancient treachery.  Some violence, some strong language, and some descriptions of sex.  An Oprah Book.  Narrated by Merwin Smith.  7 cassettes.
