Information Technology Collaboration with WISD
Washtenaw County and the Washtenaw Intermediate School District will be sharing offsite data backup and recovery services with the City of Ann Arbor. WISD has now joined the technology collaboration between the City of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority.
In creating this partnership, the Washtenaw Intermediate School District signed on to the Interagency Agreement for Collaborative Technology and Services, a 3 year partnerhship between the City of Ann Arbor, Ann Arbor Transportation Authority and Washtenaw County. The partnership focuses on sharing technology infrastructure and applications in order to save taxpayer money, provide better services together than are possible independently and share knowledge and staff capacity. The data backup and recovery partnership does all three as WISD saves the cost of construction and maintenance of an offsite data replication site, can afford to have a high end service that wouldn't be possible independently and has access to County staff for consultation and project management.
Washtenaw County, AATA and the City of Ann Arbor already collaborate though a shared data center, shared storage area network (SAN), and shared backup and offsite replication, and a shared internet connection. This new parternship leverages those four collaborations by having WISD simply purchase additional capacity on the backup solution rather than having to purchase a whole new system.
